Kurobuta – Berkshire Black

After several failed attempts at locating Citibank ATMs for some cash on the first day in Shinjuku, I decided to hunt for the next best thing – a hearty, meaty dinner with rice. It was a cool Autumn night so Tonkatsu seemed like a great idea. Tonkatsu とんかつ is a Japanese rice dish with deep-fried pork cutlets. Juicy, tender pork cutlets covered with a thin layer of breadcrumb are perfect with Japanese short-grain rice. Sweet soy-based sauce and Japanese mustard are both perfect condiments as they enhances the flavour of the crunchy pork and balances the rich flavour from the pork’s fat. It is very easy to find Tonkatsu in Japan as the dish is served both casual diners and premium restaurants. There is one restaurant called Niimura にいむら I was yearning to try as it came highly recommended from online review sites and TV travel programs.
